San Diego Insulin Pumpers
Mutual Support - General Discussion - Expert Speakers
All pumpers, companions, and friends welcome!
Don't miss the July 13th meeting of the San Diego Insulin Pumpers via ZOOM
THIS MONTH:
MEETING TIME: July 13th 7:00-8:30pm (check in at 6:45 pm)
LOCATION: From the comfort of your home.
THIS MONTH: William Lai from Xeris will give a presentation on the newly released Gvoke HypoPen. This is the new glucagon (Gvoke), a liquid stable glucagon from Xeris Pharmaceuticals for subcutaneous injection; it was approved by the FDA last year. It will be available to diabetics in a HypoPen formulation (very similar to an EpiPen) in July 2020. Currently, it’s available only as a pre-filled syringe. After the presentation, we will have Open Discussion until 9 pm.
LAST MONTH: Our ZOOM meeting was attended by 14 Pumpers. Thank you to Tom Fitzpatrick for his comprehensive presentation on the current hybrid closed-loop pump options available and hybrid closed-loop pump best practices. There are four current hybrid closed-loop pump options. The Medtronic 670, the Tandem Control IQ, Loop, and Open APS. Tom focused on the Tandem Control IQ Pump though most of the information applies to all pumps. Know your settings for optimal success! Having accurate basil rate, carb-to-insulin ratio, and correction factor parameters is key. Pre-bolusing for meals along with extended meal bolusing helps. LET THE SYSTEM WORK! Use the activity modes for sleep and exercise. Start exercise mode one hour before your exercise session. Tips: Turn off insulin when you disconnect so your on-board insulin is accurate. Change your sensor when the BG reading provides "Bad Data." The Control IQ depends on sensor accuracy. Most Control IQ users find their time-in-range increases. Your Diabetes May Vary!
For pumpers having blood sugar or other pump issues, please take a screen shot of your pump/BG issue for sharing with the group.
ZOOM is available via desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone. Select the largest screen size available for an optimal experience. An audio-only option will be available.

Zoom Meeting Agenda
In order for everyone to be able to speak at the meeting:
1. We will start with 2-3 minutes per person. We encourage you write down and prioritize what you would like to say leaving out extraneous details: How you are coping, your stress levels, if you need supplies, etc.
2. Tom will present his two-minute tip
3. After introductions and the 2 minute tip, we will then answer questions brought up. Because we have limited time, please limit your answers again to 3-5 minutes so we have enough time for the topic as some members have to leave at the stated end time.
4. Topic Presentation
Some members may be available after the meeting like before so you can get more clarification then.
Meeting Etiquette
Be respectful of person speaking—we will MUTE those that interrupt! Side conversations can be held while someone is speaking via a text chat window. There is a feedback window on the bottom bar. Click on the Clap icon or Thumbs Up icon to give speaker feedback. Depending on which method you use to join the meeting, the window may look different.
Bear with us; we're learning. We've tried to anticipate and mitigate problems, but some will still arise!!
As always, significant others and any friends and family supporters are always welcome at the meeting. Our meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month.
