October 14th Meeting: Dr Robert Thomas will speak on kidney disease

Hello, Fellow Pumpers!

We look forward to seeing you in person (if you are in the San Diego area) or via Zoom (if you live far away). Check out the newsletter and resources on our blog: sdinsulinpumpers.blogspot.com.

In person: We hold our in-person meeting at the Sharp Spectrum Building in Kearny Mesa at 8695 Spectrum Center Drive from 7–9 pm. We'll meet in the boardroom off the main lobby. The room will open at 6:30 pm for visiting before the meeting. The main entrance is locked at 6 pm so security will buzz us in through the side door off the lobby.

Via Zoom: Please join us via Zoom if you can't attend in person. The meeting link is posted below.

As always, significant others, friends, and family supporters are welcome at the meeting.

Our meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month.

THIS MONTH:  Endocrinologist Dr. Robert L Thomas, MD PhD, of the UCSD Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, will give an update on diabetic kidney disease. Bring your questions!

Several recent developments are changing how we treat chronic kidney disease in diabetes. We now recognize that our established therapies for kidney protection, such as ACE inhibitors, have focused on the glomerulus. New agents allow us to promote renal blood flow and function in deeper kidney tissues. Among the new therapies are GLP-1 agonists, soluble guanylate cyclase activators, and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. These offer new opportunities for kidney protection in type 1 diabetes, and endocrinologists and nephrologists are actively working to craft new collaborative, goal-directed guidelines.

LAST MONTH: Open discussion topics:

• ONE Conference highlights

• Kory Hood from Stanford on our motivation for maintaining our Diabetes management

• Davis Ahn on diabetes technology .

• Mini dosing with Glucogon GVoke kit

• Use Flonase before applying new sensors and infusion sets if having adhesive reactions or spray Benadryl on your skin.

• Join a diabetes study to have more personalized diabetes care.
