THIS MONTH: Open Discussion: We are looking for suggestions of speakers for 2021. For pumpers having blood sugar or other pump issues, please take a screen shot of your pump/BG issue for sharing with the group.

LAST MONTH: The October Open Discussion topics were pump cases and EDC cases found on edcsolutionstype1.com and also pumpsuit covers for Omnipod. Check Diabetesnet.com for pump accessories. Also, check out running stores for a "spy belt" zippered case. We also discussed time in range and how it seems easier to achieve on a hybrid pump.

For those on Medicare, several pumpers reported they have Medicare plans that will cover the total cost of insulin if the prescription is written "For Use in Insulin Pump Only." Check Part B of your plan for this benefit.

2.  Tom will present his 2 minute tip

3.  After introductions and the 2 minute tip, we will then answer questions brought up.  Because we have limited time, please limit your answers again to 3-5 minutes so we have enough time as some members have to leave at the stated end time.

Some members may be available after the meeting like before so you can get more clarification then.

Be respectful of person speaking, we will MUTE those that interrupt! Side conversations can be held while someone is speaking via a text chat window. There is a feedback window on the bottom bar. THIS MONTH: Open Discussion: We would like to hear from those who attended the TCOYD One Conference on October 3rd. For Pumpers having blood sugar or other pump issues, please take a screen shot of your pump/BG issue for sharing with the group.

LAST MONTH: The September Open Discussion was attended by 13 Pumpers.

Multiple topics were discussed including the Clarity App and the different reports offered, different infusion sets (steel needles are popular), Dr. Bernstein's book, and lower carb diets. Most Pumpers report weight loss during quarantine.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS WITH DIABETES

The Diabetes Design Initiative (ddi.ucsd.edu), at the UC San Diego Design Lab, aims to envision and facilitate the development of better technology for people with diabetes. We are looking for volunteers to work with us remotely this fall as part of the DDI student projects. The DDI team will work on a handful of specific design problems around diabetes technology such as continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems.

Starting early October 2020!

Participants will be working with student design teams two to three times during the Fall (Oct 6 thru Dec 8) period for interviews about challenges using your CGM and then one to two times testing their prototypes online.

THIS MONTH: Surviving the Coronavirus  As we shelter in place we will continue to hold our Pumpers Open Discussion meetings via ZOOM. For Pumpers having blood sugar or other pump issues, please take a screen shot of your pump/BG issue for sharing with the group.

LAST MONTH: The August Open Discussion was attended by 11 Pumpers.

Multiple topics were discussed including hospitals and diabetes care, which hospitals are device friendly, the setting options on the Tandem Control IQ pump, alternate sites, and avoiding scar tissue with sensors and infusion sets. If you are having absorption issues talk to your doctor about scar tissue issues. Diabetes suppliers were discussed along with the need for extra insulin than usual in lowering high blood sugars.

William Lai from Xeris spoke about the newly released Gvoke HypoPen. This new glucagon pen (Gvoke), comes in a premixed and filled pen or syringe that is a liquid stable glucagon solution for 2 years. It is now available to patients in two dosage options, 50 mg for children under 10 and 100 mg for adults. Most insurance covesr this new product and a discount coupon is available on the Xeris website www.xerispharma.com.

Volunteers Needed for UCSD Study

Diabetes Design Initiative is looking to conduct user testing in the upcoming weeks between July 29th and August 9th. One of our teams has created a prototype of an interactive educational tool to understand the relationship between glucose and insulin data, and we would like to receive your feedback. The testing session would take about one hour and would occur remotely via Zoom. UCSD Design Lab Needs Volunteers!

6-18 July 2020
The UCSD Design Lab has started the summer class session and needs 4-6 volunteers to give feedback on an educational tool to help manage diabetes better for pump/CGM users. Interviews would be between July 6th to July 18th after 3 pm. Each interview would take about 40 minutes and would occur remotely via Zoom. If interested, contact Stephanie Kim at shk167@ucsd.edu to set up an interview date/time. This Design Lab project is sponsored by Dexcom.
