LAST MONTH:  OPEN DISCUSSION. The combined experience of all the pumpers at last month’s meeting was almost 500 years. There was a lot of diabetes experience in the room. For those that like to travel, here are several hints to make traveling with diabetes easier.

If you need to change an infusion set or would like privacy for any diabetes activities, use the lactation rooms at the airport. They are usually spacious and very clean. Consider signing up for TSA pre-check. Let the Airlines know that you are carrying a bag with medical supplies so you will not be charged a baggage charge.

Sweet Talkers Next Meeting

Sweet Talkers Meeting: Friday, September 13th

Our next meeting will be Friday, September 13th at the La Jolla Village Square Community Room (our usual spot) from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm (see directions below).

I’m especially excited about this meeting as there is so much confusing nutritional information out there for diabetics. We’re gonna try taking the bull by the horns in this meeting:

- To provide you with general nutritional guidelines, we’ll dissect a current SAD (Standard American Diet) meal plan for diabetics.

- We’ll use that meal plan as a template. We’ll then correct it to bring it up to more-current nutritional standards.

- In the process, we’ll also talk about healthier foods to replace the SAD ones. This excellent and very useful endeavor is set up for really easy learning.

- We’ll also talk about water, why it’s so important to diabetics in particular, how much you should drink, and when.

If you’re confused about how to set up your own meal plan, and what you should and shouldn’t include, then this is the meeting for you.

As always, please register for this meeting by sending a confirmation to the email address below.

Please feel free to bring any of your favorite recipes to share and analyze.

Directions

Enter LJVS from Nobel Drive.
California Pizza Kitchen will be on left, Islands will be on right.
Once into LJVS, shortly on the right, a road will go up a slight incline towards Islands.  Do not take this right.
Just past this right turn, there will be another right turn that goes underground into a parking garage.

Follow the road in the garage to the AMC Movie Theater door entrance (on the left).  This is the closest entrance to the Community Room.

When inside, follow the corridor to the Center Court and turn right.
Just to the right of the AMC Theater ticket booth is the Community Room (next to the video arcade).

INSULIN PUMPERS September Meeting: Open Discussion

San Diego Insulin Pumpers
Mutual Support - General Discussion - Expert Speakers
All pumpers, companions, and friends welcome!
Don't Miss the SEPTEMBER meeting of the San Diego Insulin Pumpers!!!

THIS MONTH: OPEN DISCUSSION
MEETING TIME:  Monday September 9th 7:00-8:30pm
LOCATION:  Sharp Medical Facility
8695 Spectrum Centre Blvd, Room 186

THIS MONTH:  OPEN DISCUSSION

LAST MONTH:  We had a great August meeting with Linda Nunez, our Dexcom rep and Carol Hebron RN, CDE, a clinical account manager. Linda announced that Southern California customer support is now in house. If you are having problems, please contact Linda’s support person Britney or North County Rep Alex Booras. Our pump club website lists the contact information not only for sales representatives but clinical and technical support.

Carol’s presentation included the formula on how to adjust your correction factor based on how many arrows are going up or down on your CGM. The lag time on the G6 sensor is only 4 minutes.

A helpful reminder: Never make treatment decisions if there is not an arrow on the screen. A blood sugar number and arrow is necessary; otherwise, use your meter for treatment decisions.

Use the Clarity APP to monitor time in range. Blood sugars below 55 should only represent less than 1% of target in range report.

Carol also showed pictures of the new G7 Dexcom sensor. The sensor will have a shorter warm-up time, is smaller in size, and combines the transmitter and sensor together.

Pre-Meeting Dinner (Souplantation): Several of us get together about 5:30 pm before each meeting for dinner; all are welcome!  Anyone who would like a bite of dinner before the meeting can join us at the Souplantation Restaurant in Kearny Mesa, 7095 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard (just east of 805), 858-715-6824.

Please be ready to leave the restaurant by 6:45 pm and proceed to Sharp so that our speakers and non-dining members are not delayed.

As always, significant others and any friends and family supporters are always welcome at the meeting.  Our meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month.
