Heather Lamar RDN, CDCES, SR Clinical Diabetes Specialist, will also be available for questions. We will have Open Discussion with the time remaining at the end of the presentation. LAST MONTH: We shared our highlights of the One Conference. TCOYD has posted the Saturday morning session for viewing on YouTube. Testing for Type 1 Diabetes is available for friends and family. Screen for Type 1 is available for testing. This is especially important for anyone that already has an autoimmune disease. Screening annually is recommended for children under 18 with a family member with T1D. The drug Tzeild can delay full-on T1D for up to 3 years. Check out screenfortype1.com for more information. Great exercise tip: cool down with a 15-minute walk to prevent blood sugar spikes. Embrace our Pump and Sensor technology; it helps relieve the mental burden of managing diabetes. Discuss newer meds GLPI'S and SGT-2's with your doctor. They are beneficial for heart, kidney, and obesity. To gage diabetes stress, take the questionnaire at Diabetesdistress.org. Dr. William Polonsky provides the best advice! Give yourself grace and show compassion to yourself. Diabetes is a hard disease to control even with all of our technolgy. Be kind to yourself when lows or highs happen and have self-compassion.

THIS MONTH: Tara Stantz Principal Clinical Territory Manager San Diego Territory from Medtronic Pumps will speak to us. She will share the latest in Medtronic pumps and answer questions regarding the different pumps offered by Medtronic. This is a great opportunity to get updated. Bring your questions and concerns.

LAST MONTH: Open Discussion topics: Have a plan in case of device failure. In event of pump or CGM failure have a back up plan in place. Have test strips and a meter ready until you can get back on a sensor. Have syringes to inject insulin and discuss with your doctor the need for emergency long-acting insulin. Pump and sensor emergencies can happen on weekends when overnight shipping options can be problematic. Check pump tubing frequently when traveling by air. Air bubbles can be a problem and cause unexpected high blood sugars. Plan ahead and ask for a loaner pump when traveling outside the mainland United States.

LAST MONTH

Melanie Kraus and Lola Gugerty from Dexcom Sensors spoke to us with the latest Dexcom sensor information. Dexcom has reached the milestone of 25 years since the company was founded. There are now factories in Mesa, AZ, Malaysia, and Ireland. The G7 has been available for 2 years. The 15-day G7 sensors are expected in early 2026.

Several Pump Club members have been using Dexcom sensors since the company started. Melanie and Lola addressed the problems some users have had with G7 sensor shortages. The manufacturing issues are being resolved and any shortages are expected to end soon. If you have a sensor failure with any Dexcom sensor the company wants you to report so they and the FDA can track and resolve. There are 107 Apps that are partnered with Dexcom sensors including the Auro ring. Check out Dexcom videos on the G7 on YouTube. Helpful hint for inserting G7 sensors: Break seal in advance of inserting sensor. Use silicone mat/pot holder to twist open sensor. Push button to release sensor. Melanie and Lola's contact information is on our blog on the Dexcom page.

May 12th Meeting: Dexcom G7 Updates and Stelo

Hello Fellow Pumpers!

We look forward to seeing you in person if you are in the San Diego area or via Zoom.

Also, check out our newsletter and diabetes resources on our blog at sdinsulinpumpers.blogspot.com.

IN PERSON: We hold our in-person meeting at the Sharp Spectrum Building in Kearny Mesa at 8695 Spectrum Center Drive from 7–9 pm. We have a new meeting space at the Sharp Spectrum building. Starting in January 2025 we moved to a new boardroom. It is on the left side of the main lobby and has an outside direct entrance from the parking lot. The room will open at 6:30 pm for visiting before the meeting. The walkway to the outside entrance is located in front of the handicap parking and has a railing along the sidewalk.

VIA ZOOM: Please join us via Zoom if you can't attend in person. The meeting link is posted below.

As always, significant others, friends, and family supporters are welcome at the meeting.

We hold our meetings on the 2nd Monday of every month from 7-9 pm.

THIS MONTH

Melanie Kraus and Lola Gugerty, San Diego Reps for Dexcom CGM sensors, will first discuss the latest G7 updates, and will then tell us about Stelo, Dexcom's new over-the-counter sensor. This is a must-attend event to hear the latest sensor information.

LAST MONTH

Open Discussion covered air bubbles in pump cartridges. We learned at the March meeting with the Tandem Reps that air bubbles occur naturally in the cartridge. To prevent bubbles from entering tubing keep your pump vertical so the air bubbles stay at the top of the cartridge. We also discussed training family members on how your pump and CGM devices work in case you are unable to manage after medical procedures where you may not be able to see to operate your devices. This has occurred to several or us recently, so make sure your family knows the features of your devices before an emergency.  Finally, we learned we should download the latest Tandem T:Slim software update from on the Tandem website,

THIS MONTH

We will have an Open Discussion night. In addition to your topics, we'll discuss developing a plan for unexpected hospital stays. Bring your concerns and questions!

LAST MONTH

We had the whole Tandem Pump team at our March meeting: San Diego North County Sales Rep Molly Yarcusko, San Diego Sales Rep Kerri Orr, North County Clinical Trainer Rebecca Ponchetti, and San Diego Clinical Trainer Elise Edward.

They said the Mobi pump can be worn attached to your skin with a sleeve or carried in a case or pocket. It's iOS compatible and can use both the Dexcom G6 and G7. For those looking for a small discreet pump option, the Mobi is a great choice.

The Tandem Control IQ pump can be used with Android and iOS Smartphones, accepts G6, G7, or the Libre 2 Plus, and has a 74% average Time in Range (one of the great benefits of using an AID pump). The latest software update includes more features in the exercise mode.

The Tandem page on our Pump Club blog has been updated, so check out the new links for product information and contact information.

During Open Discussion after the Tandem presentation, Beckie shared information about the Dison care insulin cooler travel thermos. Dison has four models that keep insulin cool for 12, 48, 60, or 74 hours — great for travel. Check them out at http://disoncare.com.
