THIS MONTH: Open Discussion: Bring your concerns and questions!

LAST MONTH: Conner Mariani, Territory Manager for Insulet/Omnipod, presented Omnipod updates. Omnipods are a pharmacy benefit so it's possible to order and try them out without impacting your tubed pump and supply orders. The Omnipod Dash does not  partner with any sensor products and can be used for looping. The Omnipod 5 is currently approved for use with Libre sensors.

Approval to use Omnipod with a Dexcom 7 sensor is expected later this year. Omnipod currently has an Android phone app, while an iPhone app may be available by the end of the year. Contact information for Connor and Adriana Valencia, Clinical Trainer, and training information is posted on our Pump Club blog (sdinsulinpumpers.blogspot.com) on the Omnipod manufacturer page.

Supplies Donation Policy

We have implemented a Donation Policy due to the increase in supplies being brought to the meetings.

As of the May meeting, please email Margi at margit7@att.net with a list of the items you wish to share with the group.

The list must be received before the 28th of the previous month so it can be included in the newsletter. Interested Pumpers can contact me to request supplies. Please include the brand, model information, and expiration date. You will need to bring your items to the meeting or interested pumpers can email me and I will pass on their request to you. Any supplies remaining at the end of the meeting must go home with you; they can be included in the next month's newsletter.

THIS MONTH: Conner Mariani, Territory Manager for Insulet/Omnipod will present Omnipod updates. Conner will join us in person. Bring your questions!

LAST MONTH: Rebecca Ponchetti, Tandem Clinical Diabetes Specialist and Type 1, spoke to us about the G7 software upgrade and the Mobi pump. Tandem t:slim X2 Pumps now partner with the Dexcom G6/G7 sensors and the Libre 2 sensor. The t:slim latest software upgrade includes a timer feature for exercise activity.

Helpful tip for using the G7 sensor: When a G7 sensor session "ends" you have a 12-hour grace period before it actually stops reading glucose values. This grace period lets you apply a new G7 sensor as soon as possible but not activate it. The new sensor will "warm up" and learn your blood sugars. Then, when the first sensor's 12-hour grace period ends, you activate the second sensor. The new G7 sensor, having warmed up, will immediately begin reporting your blood sugars. You will have eliminated the interval where you have no readings.

The Mobi pump is currently available with an IOS operating system through an iPhone. You can either wear the Mobi pump in a sleeve attached to your body with five inches of tubing, or with longer tubing in a case on your belt or in a pocket. The Mobi cartridge holds 200 units. Check out the Tandem page on our blog for links to Tandem resources and classes.

THIS MONTH: Open Discussion. Bring your topics and any concerns you want to discuss.

LAST MONTH; Luke Bailey, Medtronic Pump Territory Manager, spoke to us about the new 780G Pump. For those using the 770 pump a software upgrade is available..

You can operate the 880 with an Apple watch or with the Mini Med App. Guardian 4 sensors do not need finger sticks to calibrate and there are fewer alerts. The 770 has an auto correction dose feature if you forget to bolus for a meal. You can trade in your Guardian 3 sensors for Guardian 4 sensors (if under warranty). The pump has a 300 unit reservoir. It also has a filter in the infusion set that filters out insulin crystals to extend the infusion set's life. Medtronic has improved the adhesive. They have three lengths of tubing available. The pump uses AA batteries.

Alkaline batteries last about 2 1/2 weeks; lithium lasts about four weeks. The pump is approved for ages 14 and up. Check out the Mini Med page on our pump club blog for more information.

THIS MONTH: Holiday Dinner at Mimi's Café at 5180 Mission Center Rd across from the Best Buy on Monday December 11th from 5- 8:30 PM. Please contact Margi at margit7@att.net by December 8th to reserve your seat. We will meet in the Vineyard private dining room. This is a drop-in event; family and friends are welcome. Order what you want off the menu (separate checks).

We will have free TCOYD One Conference swag bags along with TCOYD conference T shirts for all attendees.

Tom will be available for technical help with the following issues after dinner: Dexcom G6, Dexcom Follow, SugarMate, Apple Watch and IPhone updates, and installing or setting up Tandem tconnect or t:slim updates on your pump. He will have several computers to help with your updates. Make sure you have your passwords with you.

The donation of Tandem pump supplies, Omni Pod 5 pods, and Novolog insulin will also be available at Mimi's. See the complete list below under Announcements.

LAST MONTH: Kerri Orr (San Diego Territory Manager)  and Rebecca Ponchetti (Clinic Trainer) showed us the newly released Mobi Pump. They both wear the Mobi. It is small enough to fit in the coin pocket of your pants or you can attach it to your clothes with a clip case. You can also wear it in a sleeve attached to your skin.

The Mobi uses a wireless charger, is half the size of the Tandem TSlim pump, and is 7% smaller than an Omni Pod .The cartridge holds 200 units of insulin and has the option of 5 inches of tubing (when worn attached to your skin) or 23 inches of tubing (when not attached). You control it through your IPhone (no Android yet).

In-warranty Tandem pump users can upgrade to a Mobi for $199; contact Tandem for details. Tandem has a free 90-day trial on all its pumps.

The G7 Tandem pump software update has started its limited release. Emails to current users will be sent out in December. In addition to being able to use either the G6 or G7 Dexcom sensor, the update will have a timed setting from 30 minutes to 8 hours in the exercise mode.

Kerri encourages us to call Tandem with any complaints or suggestions regarding the Tandem pump software. They use our feedback to include in changes and updates to the software.

See the Pump Manufacturers > Tandem Pump page for links to Tandem classes and Virtual Office Hours.
